Google just submitted an official letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin signaling their intent to bid on the upcoming 700 Mhz range auction provided certain conditions are met. Google is asking for open applications, open devices, open networks, and open services, which begs the question: Is an Open Source Google Phone “Gphone” in the works?

My birthday is next month and my family offered to get me an iPhone. It’s interesting to see how good Apple’s PR machine is at penetrating into the mainstream and reaching even those who don’t follow “tech gadgets” but know that the Apple iPhone is the “ultimate thing” to get. (I guess being on the home page of all major US newspapers on launch day is effective).
I’ve really tried to resist any blog post with the word “iphone” in it, but I think I’ll make an exception for unlocked iphone.
Last summer my Dell hard drive crashed out of the blue - if you ever had this happen to you, you know what a nightmare it can be. I had been making manual backups every month or so, but losing even several weeks worth of data meant I lost some important pictures and client files.

Over the weekend I watched a PBS special on Andy Warhol. It’s one of those awesome documentaries that makes you re-evaluate existence itself and reassess the value of everything around you.
One of the central themes of Warhol’s work was the concept of celebrity, which made me think about last week’s Digg meltdown and how a single number was the source of all the noise. This single number became a celebrity overnight (kind of like the girl from Heroes).
