The Universal Wish List Idea

Maybe this already exists, but I haven’t seen it. Anybody want to create it with me? A universal wish list website - think del.icio.us combined with Amazon’s wish list, where you can bookmark and tag things you want, no matter where online you find them. Make it social, encourage sharing, create MySpace widgets for “things I want”, etc.

These items can be anything from an iPod to things that don’t really exist or are not in production. As a bonus, random items (that can be purchased) will be bought for random people at random times - these will be featured on the home page.

Why doesn’t something like this exist yet? (That I know of)

Here are some items on my “universal wish list”:

Actually I’m working on something like that for my HS Independent Study, any input/ideas would be wonderful and most appreciated ;)

I remember seeing a site called GreedyMe (www.greedyme.com) a while back that was looking at this sort of thing, and I agree it is a great idea. I think some bigger players might be starting out along these lines, though. For instance, I recently found a site called ThisNext (www.thisnext.com) which I imagine will start with wishlists fairly soon.

GreedyMe just carries too negative a connotation - not very good for branding or making people feel good about using your site.

I think proper execution would be key for a service like this. Would have to feature ways to spread the message virally.

I’ve been working on a site like this, after using Yahoo! Groups to share gift ideas with family for the last few years — and just hating the UI every step of the way.

The site’s called Giftie Giftie — http://www.giftiegiftie.com/. We’re still working on some stuff (including fleshing out the social angle). Comments and ideas are welcome.

Having taken a lot of these services for a spin over the last few weeks (apparently there’s a ton of them) - my favorite is http://www.thisnext.com/

A very well executed social wishlist concept, well designed, easy to use, and complete with widgets, just like I had hoped for.

Please check out http://wishlisting.com/ . We created it to solve the problem you’re describing. More features on the way (including some of the ones you mentioned). Please let us know what you think!
