[...] This is an interview someone did with ChaCha creator Scott Jones, which gives some insight as to where and how ChaCha started. [...]

The top editors/contributors of any large and influential system end up wielding lots of power and are therefore succeptable to "undue influence" whether monetary or otherwise.

Run a search for "dmoz corrupt".

There are lots of stories about editors at DMOZ approving or denying sites because they have an agenda.

Digg is a bit of a different story but the top users do control most of the information. Not necessarily a bad thing, but worth thinking about.

What is the bias at DMOZ and digg? DMOZ only allows certain favored sites into the directory? How do you know? And what is DIgg and its bias?
thanks.

I was was of the naysayers when I first heard about the ChaCha concept. A lot of people that I respect have also written scalding reviews. But after this interview and looking at it a bit deeper, I think it's a concept to watch.

One of the things that I'm still a little troubled by is Jones's reference to naver.com's success in Korea as a sign of hope. Orkut's dual life (popularity in Brazil and failure in the US) shows us: you should never assume that something popular in one culture will also be popular in another. I suppose time will tell.

As a guide, I was highly encouraged by this interview. Jones managed to address the major flaws with the system while pointing out the positives. I don't know if it will be "the next Google" but I think many many people are going to find it useful. I just hope some of the naysayers get to see this and it may change their thinking.

Many people have a hard time wrapping their heads around the big picture with what ChaCha is trying to do. They automatically think ChaCha is Google (with their millions of results in nanoseconds), but with a Guide.

Sure, I bet ChaCha will get there someday, but it is in Alpha Experimental mode.

This interview just sums up what the big picture is, I hope other websites/media see this, as it might change their thought process.
